This tutorial shows you how to use some really nice shading techniques using a little bit of masking, some blurring options, and some gradient tools as well.
There are other ways to achieve highlighting and shadows within the program but I like using this technique as it gives you a lot more control as to where you can place colors. Color points are an amazing tool but this is really for more of a quick and easy way of doing things.
