You do not need to spend every Saturday in the garden. You need ten plants that take care of themselves.

Three hours a year - that is the entire maintenance schedule for the perennial bed I am about to lay out. Plant them in April, walk away and ten Octobers from now they will still be coming back stronger than the year you put them in.

This is the list for gardeners who have other things to do and who are tired of replanting marigolds every May.

These ten perennials are picked for USDA hardiness zones 4 through 8 - covers most of the United States. Check your zone before planting. Most garden centers now use the 2023 USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map.
