No, this is not the French indie pop band nor the song "(Phoenix) From the Ashes". This is a rare track "From The Ashes" by 70's English rock band Phoenix. I can already foresee the confusion ahead in viewers looking for the 2 prior instances. Anyway, for those fortunate enough to happen upon this - or those actually searching for the UK band - I hope it's a treat.
Phoenix did rise from the ashes of Argent. Vocalist/guitarist John Verity had replaced Russ Ballard in Argent in 1973. Original members Jim Rodford (bass) and drummer Bob Henrit, together with Mr. Verity, formed Phoenix in 1976. Although their career together was brief, only producing a couple of albums, the band wrote and recorded some solid material and deserved better than to be labelled as 2nd rate Argent "wannabees". I'm always a sucker for the mellotron which graces "From The Ashes". Since Jim Rodford added keyboards to his repertoire, I believe it is he who is on mellotron. I wish more bands had incorporated that instrument in their songs.
