With the ferry from Piraeus to Santorini in 8 hours during the day, where I stayed 24 hours to see the major parts of Thera, the capital of the island and group of islands under the name of Santorini, which is quite famous for its history and white houses reflecting the sun during sunset creating a very unique atmosphere. I walked around the small alleys of the city with many touristic shops, hotels and restaurants on my first day, which is the first part of the video. In the second part, I will visit the museum with many items that had been found on the archeological sites of the island, which are located more to the South and the Eastern coast line, where ancient Thera used to be.
The settlements date back more than five thousand years to the beginning of the Bronze Age with several important time periods and some mysterious events that seemed to have destroyed most part of the civilization at the time. This is why many connect Thera to the ancient civilization of Atlantis, which allegedly has predated all major civilizations and was destroyed by a flood according to the legend.
However, it is more likely that the actual Atlantis was really located in modern day Africa beyond the pillars of Heracles, as Plato called the strait if Gibraltar and at the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, which was derived from the name of Atlantis. But these are of course just speculations, as nobody really knows, where Atlantis was and if it actually existed.
My journey will lead me further from Santorini to Rhodes on the ferry the next day.
