The Effect of the Rain After the Long Drought | Farming Challenges & New Growth
In this video, we share the impact of the first rains after a 2-year drought on our farm. While our crops have been surviving through drip irrigation, the heavy downpour this week has caused some unexpected challenges.
Our Tylka tomatoes, which were thriving, are now showing signs of disease with browning and drying leaves. However, there’s still hope as we continue harvesting tomatoes while monitoring the situation closely.
On the bright side, our orange trees and seedling beds are flourishing! The rains have revitalized the clay soil, and the orange trees, along with the Rio Grande tomato seedlings, are pushing out fresh green leaves. It’s a mixed bag of emotions—concern for our tomato plants but gratitude for the rain after such a long dry spell.
