About 15 years ago, we started running ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses at the Honeycroft Children's Centre in Hove. What started out as a simple room hire agreement has blossomed into one of the WEA's most progressive and enduring partnerships.
WEA students - predominantly local women doing ESOL and Childcare courses - use Honeycroft's creche services, which are vital to their learning. Many go on to volunteer at the Centre to fulfil the practical element of their Childcare course, and in many instances move into paid work there once accredited.
There is a huge amount of added value from adult education taking place in what is predominantly a creche and nursery: friendships are made; cultural barriers are broken down; and further opportunities for learning and participation are seen and encouraged.
Honeycroft Centre Coordinator Marion Silsby talk about a partnership which we're all really proud of, and one which keeps on developing.
