The killer who terrorized the FBI (Pizza Bomber case)
The "Pizza Bomber" case is one of the most fascinating and complex stories in American criminal history. It took place in 2003 in Erie, Pennsylvania, and involved a bank robbery gone wrong, culminating in a spectacular murder. Here's a summary of the case:
On August 28, 2003, Brian Wells, a 46-year-old pizza delivery driver, was stopped by police after committing a robbery at a local bank. He was wearing an explosive necklace strapped to his neck and claimed to have been forced to rob the bank under threat of an explosion. Wells explained that he had been caught up in a conspiracy and that unknown individuals had forced him to participate in the attack. He was arrested before he could leave, and shortly afterward, the explosive strapped to his neck detonated, killing Wells instantly.
The investigation revealed that this case was much more complex than it appeared. In reality, Brian Wells wasn't just a perpetrator, but a victim manipulated into a much larger scheme. Individuals were involved in the manufacture of the explosive paste and the execution of the plan. Ultimately, the investigation uncovered elements of manipulation, accomplices, and a conspiracy worthy of a thriller.
One of the key figures in the case was Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong, a woman who played a key role in organizing the robbery and the attack. She was accused of being the instigator of the plot, having orchestrated the entire affair, including the use of Wells as a "human shield."
