My first college reunion was nothing less than a surreal trip of pleasant and unpleasant surprises and the reawakening of old attachments. Here's what I remember:

I tried to slide all modesty aside
When I found your tribe on that September night.
I kept a beat, but I couldn’t take the heat
Under the gaze of those impatient eyes.
Turned out the past, no need to go back,
Went looking for a sign that I could get it right.
And before I knew, your significance grew
With the help of memories bathed in light, that I write, and I fight

See, I Can’t Let Go of the way that we once were
Still I Can’t Let Go, and I know it’s gone for sure
Can’t turn back now.

I rise above in a moment of love
And step back onto that familiar stage.
Buildings of brick, how they stand indiff-
‘rent to the hurricanes that I’ve sustained.
We meet again, and the broken line is men-
ded though your hands reveal the lasting change.
And from your touch, I expect too much
And know that longing will remain my same old refrain.

See, I Can’t Let Go of the way that we once were
Still I Can’t Let Go, and I know it’s gone for sure
Can’t turn back now.

Do you see
Do you see what the words and melodies have done to me?
Do you know
Do you know that the absence rendered us so close
So close

See, I Can’t Let Go of the way that we once were
No I Can’t Let Go
And I know it’s gone for sure
See I Can’t Let Go
Yeah I know it’s gone for good
Ah I Can’t Let Go

And I know you’re gone
Gone for good.
And I can’t go back.
But I can’t let go.
