The Gun Club in Baltimore decided to attempt to communicate with the Moon. Fascinating debates about the project, led by the club's president, Barbicane, soon engulfed eminent specialists. Michel Ardant proposed embarking, along with Barbicane and another American, aboard the repurposed cannonball.
