Rings of Power Ep. 4 Review
In lieu of a traditional review, I’m going to read a list of questions I wrote while watching Rings of Power Episode 4.
After one elf shows up in Numenor, why is everyone is afraid the elves are going to replace them and take their jobs? Seems like an over reaction, contrived to create a false sense of tension.
Pharazôn then gives a speech and at then end calls for “drinks for everyone.” Where did these waitresses come from? In Numenor do they just have waitresses with trays of alcoholic beverages standing around, ready to give drinks to spontaneous crowds at the order of politicians?
Why can’t I remember Isildur’s sister’s name? Every time I see her I just think of Emma Watson as Hermione Granger.
Why did Isildur and his friends get dismissed for letting a rope slip? No one was injured or killed. Seems like a fairly minor infraction. Why didn’t Isildur just resign? Getting his friends kicked out alongside him again seems like an overreaction, contrived to create a false sense of tension.
What are Isildur’s friends’s names? Again, these characters don’t feel important so I can’t remember.
Why do the orcs keep Arondir alive? He was clearly the biggest threat during the escape attempt and couldn’t anyone deliver a message to the people of the Sutherlands?
The people of the Sutherlands show up at the fortress and all they have five potatoes and the response is, “we need to cut rations?” Why didn’t they bring more food? This feels contrived to create a false sense of tension. Also, there is no sense of distance and scale. How far is the fortress from the village?
Back in Linden, how much time has passed? I thought Galadriel was staying in Numinous for three days. Suddenly Celebrimbor’s massive tower is well under way.
Does Elrond have a portal or some other means of fast travel to get to the dwarves so fast? Because in the very next scene he is back at Khazad-dûm as if it is just down the street.
Did I miss something, what on earth is Disa’s reference to a recipe for strong gravy? It’s very distracting dialogue that took me out of the scene almost as much as Disa’s ham-fisted Scottish accent.
How on Earth did Elrond guess that the children’s rhyme was a secret password to the mine on his first go attempt?
Is Elrond a terrible friend? He clearly lies to Durin about spying on him, though admittedly the depiction of elf site looked cool with that vertigo effect
In the scene where Galadriel continues to be unreasonably full of contempt and argues with Tar-Míriel, how is Galadriel thousands of years old yet lacks basic diplomacy skills or understanding or Royal courts and people even though she herself is royalty?
After getting released from prison, how did Galadriel overpower four armed male soldiers? I understand she can single handedly kill a snow troll that takes out all the stupid and incompetent male elven soldiers around her, but this scene was so poorly edited it looked like the Numenorian soldiers walked into the jail cell and let her win.
Why didn’t Muriel immediately ship Galadriel off the island?
When Theo is hiding in the well from orcs after returning to his village for food, why does he wait until night to escape to try and escape the orcs that overran his village? Wouldn’t his people have a fairly good understanding of the nature of orcs?
Why or how did the orcs give Arondir back his weapons when Adar told him to deliver a message? Did the orcs not get the memo from Adar that he is to deliver a message? Don’t they know he is delivering a message for Adar, why are they trying to kill him? Couldn’t anyone have delivered the message “surrender or die?”
Why does the slow mo go on for so long during Arondir and Theo’s escape through the forrest? Can someone please speed up this scene to real time and show that the arrow Arondir caught was moving super slow?
How did Bronwyn find them at exact time? Why didn’t she go looking for her son sooner?
Why are the orcs extra scared of sunlight when it is convenient for the good guys? They have protective clothing and we’ve seen them out in daylight before.
Why are Numenorian crowds so malleable? Why are the Numenorians suddenly on board with helping the elves when the queen pulls a 180 and decides to go with Galadriel to the Sutherlands? Obviously Pharazôn is on board with the queen leaving because he sees an opportunity for a power grab, but it seems like most of the citizens volunteer to go with Queen and Galadriel when earlier they were all riled up about elves taking their jobs before a spontaneous round of drinks appeared.
Why don’t the Numenorians have a standing army? They seem to have a navy…
Is anyone else bored or is it just me?
We are halfway through this show and only in the last 2 minute of this episode did it start to feel like there was some momentum and that finally something might happen in the next episode.
