Cedar Key Needs YOUR Help After Devastating Disaster!
Cedar Key was destroyed by Hurricane Helene and desperately needs Everyone's Help!!! The storm surge collapsed peoples homes taking away most of the people on the island's livelihood. So far, it has only been the citizens and volunteers working together to clean the island and tear down homes that aren't able to be repaired. Fortunately there are people like Scott Larsen in the world who is doing everything in his power to help the community. He is paying out of pocket and gathering volunteers together to demo people's homes because their are people trying to take advantage of the victims from the storm trying to gouge them. They are trying to charge people 50-120k to tear down their homes. While other people are stealing from victims whose doors were blown out and only have their home to use as a place for storage. You even have some people that aren't from Cedar Key whose homes weren't affected going to the island trying to get free stuff from places that are handing out supplies to the victims. It's a very sad sight to see especially when there's people trying to take advantage of people going through a really dark time. Julez Bradley and I decided we wanted to go out there so we could try to help out as much as we could. They need as much help as possible we learned that they are not accepting donations at the time because they are already overwhelmed with how much people have donated so, they are having issues handing everything out since there's not enough people that have returned to the island yet. They mainly need help from volunteers to demo homes, clean up debris, carrying appliances that were destroyed out to the garbage piles by the road, people with trailers to carry off loads of debris to the dump, and things like that. The best ways we found to find someone to help was either by going to City Hall on the left side once you enter is a table with a file of people who have submitted a form asking for help with their name, address, and phone number. You can also drive around asking people if they need any volunteers or go to the Tiki Bar where Scott Larsen is unless he is out working on clean up at that time and volunteer to help him. Scott Larsen, City Hall, and the First Baptist Church are the main ways to get pointed in the right direction. They would greatly appreciate any help they can get even if you can only help for part of the day it would help a lot. Many of communities were destroyed by Hurricane Helene and Milton so any place you live close to that was hit hard could really use your help.
