This is my attempt at answering the "One-Synth Challenge" that pops up every now and again: "make an entire song using only one synth."
Most of the instrumentation used in this song comes comes the Rob Papen VST plugin, ALBINO 3. The main exceptions being: one sound effect that comes from OMNISPHERE by Spectrasonics; and all of the drums are stock sounds from Ableton Live, using custom MIDI drum patterns.
This song was originally written for live performance, and was played (mostly) live for the first time at "eeemfest 2019" in Rutherford, NJ; and then was prompty filed away under "songs for future development." Most synth composers have dozens of songs filed away in the same manner, amiright? The "recycled solo" was literally a solo from another song of mine, written in 2009.
Fast forward to June 2023, and I needed to fill an hour of a live stream performance, including video. I touched up the song a bit; and this time, recorded it properly, but this time had liberal fun with the video content. The live stream event was broadcast on the 4th of July.
Thing is though: development of the ALBINO 3 plugin ceased circa 2014, and therefore was about to become lost to the never-ending march of progress of operating systems (specifically, the M1 chip Macs... thanks a bunch, Apple!), therefore potential making ALBINO 3 a non-functional plugin. So I had to hurry up and take any project I've done using ALBINO 3 and "print to tape," as the pros would say. EDIT: SEE UPDATE BELOW
WHAT THE HECK IS A "RECYCLED SOLO"?
I purposely used the solo you've heard here, three times!. Now, all three songs that use this solo are now uploaded on my channel. ANd yes, it was a total music nerd schtick. The songs are, in order:
1) ALL OF MY TOYS. The song and the 'recycled' solo was first played in this ditty from 2009.
• ALL OF MY TOYS (Robert Dorschel 2023)
2) PARTY OF ONE. Another fun ditty that was originally written in 2019, and done properly in June 2023. Second use of the solo.
• PARTY OF ONE (Robert Dorschel)
3) ALBINO SYNDICATE. Which you are watching here.
EDIT: UPDATE, OCTOBER 2023:
Rob Papen (VST synth person/company) literally just announced they are updating the plugin to run on modern systems and releasing it as "ALBINO 3 LEGEND"! Talk about serendipity! Check out his offerings here:
