🔍 Part 46: Saving your pattern as an Ai pattern
To save a pattern in Ai format, simply click File, save as. Re-name the pattern, then click the format list. Select Adobe Illustrator format (ai) and click save.
In the options dialogue box you can select which version of Illustrator you would like the pattern to be compatible with. I recommend using the default 2020 version.
The earlier the version is, the less reliable the pattern draft might be.
Leave all the other options as default and click ok.
Adobe illustrator ai pattern files are only compatible with Adobe illustrator. Using this file type will preserve all pattern layers and groupings. I recommend using this file type if you and your colleagues work predominantly in Adobe Illustrator.
You can also use this format when selling your digital patterns online, however, your customers will also need to have Adobe Illustrator to edit these files.
