Snorkeling Iceland's Silfra
I visited Iceland 🇮🇸 in September 2019. Though the experience was over too soon, time stood still for me while I drifted in the waters of a dream come true. The act of checking a bucket list item is a fine, surreal thing to do! Bringing those childhood fantasies forward into reality will forever be a most humbling and empowering moment, for me.
I am aware the footage is amateurish, and cringey, even, but I will rewatch it, knowing that I was negotiating a plethora of thoughts during the moment. I am grateful you’ve joined me, as I relive the moment. Thank you.

If you are certified, diving Silfra would be spectacular!
If you’re unfamiliar, a dry suit is exactly what it sounds like; it keeps the operator dry—except for hands and face. Underneath, you’ll need to wear comfortable, mobile-friendly layers. I wore non-itchy thermal merino wool bottom and top. Be prepared to don extra accessories should you suppose you’ll be in need of restroom relief, while wearing a dry suit.

👉"A part of Reykjavik center is off limits to buses and coaches. The traffic ban includes tourist buses or coaches of any size, vehicles with group licenses and specialized vehicles, e.g. super-jeeps." This includes KEF transfer shuttles. 👉Book your tours, airport transfers, and accommodations in advance!!!! Iceland is an international destination, so you’re competing with the world for preferred time slots. Also, be prepared to be flexible with your schedule; your booked tour can be bumped to an earlier or later time slot if they happen to need to consolidate for efficiency, even a couple of days beforehand.
👉The tap water in Iceland should be a national treasure! There is no need to purchase bottled water, while you're in Iceland. They are very proud of the purity of their water: from the tap to the stream, it's ready to drink, they boast. The pristine sips of the glacier water during the snorkel was unparalleled!

👉You will likely need to purchase a SIM card for your phone. Get one at the airport in the store next to luggage claim. BE SURE YOUR PHONE IS UNLOCKED or you won’t be able to use the SIM card and will be relying upon your plan’s international rates.
👉You will need a converter handy, not just an adapter, for using your devices in Iceland. Iceland uses plug types, C and F. Iceland operates on a 230V supply voltage. If you have a dual-voltage appliance be sure to check its labels. “If it does not say 100-240V and 50-60 Hz., then you will need a ‘step-down transformer,’ also called a converter.” I found one on Amazon. DO NOT BRING/USE YOUR HAIRDRYER IN ICELAND. (Easily googled) Nearly every hotel and Airbnb offers them.
