Herb Reed still looked & sounded great live on stage in Lawrence MA. The concert was held during the Annual Feast of the Three Saints. Sadly, Rolling Stone Reports of his passing.

June 5, 2012 11:40 AM ET Herb Reed of the Platters has died in a Boston area hospice, reports the Associated Press. He was 83. Reed helped found the Platters in Los Angeles in 1952, and the group found success with hits like "The Great Pretender" and "Only You." Reed, who sang bass on many of group's Number One hits, was the only member of the band to appear on all of their recordings.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted the Platters in 1990.
The Platters were one of the most successful vocal groups of the early rock and roll era. Their distinctive sound was a bridge between the pre-rock Tin Pan Alley tradition and the burgeoning new genre. The act went through several personnel changes, with the most successful incarnation comprising lead tenor Tony Williams, David Lynch, Paul Robi, Herb Reed, and Zola Taylor. The group had 40 charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart between 1955 and 1967, including four # 1 hits.
