DOUG RATHMANN GLADOS CAVE JOHNSON APERTURE SCIENCE

Doug Rathman. One of the last surviving scientists at Aperture Science.
When Glados tricked her into acquiring a neurotoxin, she began killing most of the scientists. She then subjected the survivors to deadly tests. Doug escaped and, while traveling through the facility's blind spots, rearranged the test subjects in favor of Chell, seeing her as a chance to finish off Glados.

Doug Rathman suffers from schizophrenia and is forced to take medication to suppress his symptoms. He left two pills in case Glados woke Chell, and spent the following time trying to survive. Losing his mind, he began drawing. In his loneliness, he found a friend in the Companion Cube. When the moment came, he took his pills and began to talk about the complex.
These are the moments when I almost understand the logic of this place. An impossibility, the fantasy of some mad architect, a remnant of an era that perhaps never existed. A mutating mixture of additions, changes, and connections, creating itself from itself. Beautiful and terrible—created like a cancer, it is apparently immortal.

The cube becomes Doug Rathmann's voice of logic. It somehow predicts the locations of turrets and also suggests working ideas, like activating the backup power to Chell's cryochamber. When Glados was destroyed, the cube offered to escape, but Rathmann disobeyed to help. There are numerous hints that the cubes are indeed sentient and can speak. But it still falls silent after taking the pills. Whether it could truly communicate remains unknown.

At the end of the journey, Ratman remains in the test pod with several bullet wounds. His subsequent fate is unknown. When asked about his death, Erik Wolpaw refused to confirm or deny this information.

In Portal 2, many years after the events of Portal, Ratman's voice can be heard. He speaks incoherent gibberish, which the community has often tried to decipher. Phrases
The soundtrack featuring these lines is called "Ratman's Ghost." A developer commentary with another ARG is located in the same location.

His drawings show an obsession with the Companion Cube. He also draws a path for Chell. He is the author of the famous phrase "cake is a lie." He often quotes various literature in his poems, such as Dickinson and Longfellow, indicating his well-read nature. In the comic, he studied Art Therapy, and perhaps the drawings helped him cope with his illness. In Portal 2, his obsession with the Moon is shown. He even mentioned in the comic that he'd like to fly there. Another ARG image from Portal 2 shows a companion cube. Given the ARG's connection to Doug Rathmann, it's safe to assume he did use the portal to reach the moon, where he took this photo.

Another card features an image of Doug Rathmann.

There's a universe where the campaign director is Doug Rathmann.
