OpenAI is in trouble right before the launch of GPT 5. Top leaders in the company are leaving in a giant shakedown. OpenAI president and co-founder, Greg Brockman is taking an extended leave through the end of the year. At the same time, John Schulman, one of the co-founders, is leaving as well, and will be joining the rival AI startup Anthropic.

OpenAI was founded In December 2015 by 11 founders, including: Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Ilya Sutskever, Greg Brockman, Trevor Blackwell, Vicki Cheung, Andrej Karpathy, Durk Kingma, John Schulman, Pamela Vagata, and Wojciech Zaremba. With the absence of Brockman and Schulman, only two members now remain: Wojciech Zaremba and Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman.

Apart from the two co-founders, Peter Deng, a product manager who joined OpenAI just last year after leading products at Meta, Uber, and Airtable, has left as well.
