We cover how to extract the nth smallest and nth largest items of a list in Excel. In our example, we have the fictitious returns of various industries and want to identify what the top and bottom 5 returns are and which industry they correspond to. Instead of filtering, we use the SMALL and LARGE functions. We then use the VLOOKUP function to extract the industries that correspond to the n smallest and largest returns.
