An introduction to the concept of drive. The notions of affect and repetition, derived from psychoanalytic treatment, are developed, showing how they are linked to what Freud would later call "der Trieb" (the drive). The pleasure principle and the reality principle are defined in order to reconcile them with the psychosomatic nature of the drive. Towards the end, the notion of infantile sexuality is introduced.
