Cut Down Deforestation - Original Song
Hey, it's been a hot sec! I'm currently still finishing up my school year, so my composition hiatus isn't quite over, but I do get to upload this short little song I put together for one of my classes (which means this is pretty rough and also pretty simple).
The project was to choose an issue, research it, and share it with your community/the world/etc. I chose deforestation mostly because I find the environment, and the issues to the environment that we've caused, quite interesting. However, researching made me even more fascinated with the subject. There was a lot of the more general ideas - like how we're losing biodiversity, especially in the rainforests, due to how deforestation destroys the ecosystem. But a part I enjoyed learning most about was the carbon sink, and the relation trees have to the carbon cycle. It ended up connecting very directly to climate change, which is what surprised me. Because deforestation both releases stored carbon into the atmosphere, as well as prevents trees from being able to absorb some of our emissions, the carbon is just getting trapped in our atmosphere and worsening the greenhouse effect by absorbing and re-emitting heat.
I got to learn about a lot of different solutions, and also try to figure some out on my own. Since a lot of illegal deforestation is done in countries with less regulations and enforcement of tree harvesting, I thought focusing on that aspect would be a good step forward. On an individual level, simply changing the types of products you use also can be a huge help. Things like animal products often encourages agricultural expansion, which tends to be the biggest reason forests are cut down. There's also more obvious replacements, especially with the growing usage of the internet and other forms of technology, in which we can cut down our usage of paper products specifically.
While this may not be the most creative song I've written (it's really just spouting facts to a tune), it was a lot of fun and I hope it can be at least a little informative.
