In this video we will consider the main vital functions of cells of unicellular and multicellular organisms. You will learn how cells of unicellular organisms perform all necessary functions independently, while cells of multicellular organisms specialize in performing certain functions.
We will discuss in detail how cells:
obtain energy from the environment and convert it into various forms;
selectively absorb substances, move them within the cell and remove metabolic products;
store, implement and transmit hereditary information to the next generation;
maintain intracellular balance;
recognize environmental signals and respond to them;
form new molecules and structures to replace those that have already worn out.
The video explains the role of the main structural parts of the cell: the surface apparatus, cytoplasm with organelles and the nucleus (or nucleoid). We will also look at the organization of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, including differences in structure and function.
Comparing prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells will help you understand how their structure affects life processes. For example, prokaryotes have a murein cell wall and a plasma membrane, while eukaryotes are characterized by the presence of membranous organelles and a nucleus.
