Untold Stories is a column in which I attempt to deconstruct the details of game level design and piece together the coherent story the developers were trying to tell through the environment. Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 didn't have much level storytelling, but there was still enough, and surprisingly few people bothered to decipher the clues left by mappers. Here I'm trying to explain the behind-the-scenes lore of the Left 4 Dead world by exploring locations, abandoned posters, notes, bodies, and survivor dialogue.
