Air Combat 22 is a Flight Combat Arcade Style Simulator game that came out in the arcades in Japan and North America 1995. It is the second title in the long running Ace Combat games. The 22 at the end of the title just means that it ran on the Namco 22 Arcade hardware. Air Combat 22 features improved physics and graphics over the original 1993 version and 3 aircraft to choose from as opposed to only 1 in the first title.
As a long time fan of the Ace Combat games Air Combat 22 is a fun title, but a bit short which makes sense given how the game is presented. Still though this is a very impressive game for the time. Also it's not really meant to be a story based game like the ones after it, but the combat is pretty fun especially for the time. There were quite a few cockpit style arcade games like the sit down version of 80s Star Wars Arcade (which I played the actual machine in sit down form). After Burner II was another one. I'm pretty sure that Air Combat 22 was only shipped in a sitdown style cockpit cabinet.
The only way to play this is through emulation sadly. I'd recommending giving it a go especially if you like the Ace Combat games.
