Normally because the Sun emits intense ultraviolet light (UV), the Sun is so bright that it overwhelms your eyes' ability to focus, which is why you instinctively look away or blink if you accidentally glance at it. However, during a solar eclipse, when the moon partially or fully covers the Sun, the overall brightness decreases. This reduced brightness can trick your eyes into thinking it's safe to look directly at the Sun without experiencing discomfort.
