The National Weather Service in Slidell and in Lake Charles have issued Red Flag Warnings. A Red Flag Warning means warm temperatures, very low humidities, and stronger winds are expected to combine to produce an increased risk of fire danger. This will cover from Alexandria and south to the coast. We expect the Red Flag Warnings to last through Friday, October 18.
There are also multiple parish-level burn bans in effect. It's of the utmost importance that we all remain vigilant and adhere to the burn bans issued at the parish level. Commissioner Strain reminds us that this collective effort is crucial in preventing a repeat of last year's devastating wildfire season.
We encourage everyone to check for burn bans in their area, and please abide by them. You can easily do this by visiting https://www.ldaf.la.gov/land/fire/safety. This simple action can play a significant role in preventing wildfires and ensuring the safety of our communities.
