A symbol of SK: Abandoned Saskatchewan, Part 2
Wooden grain elevators used to be the sign of a successful community. But as farming practices changed and many small farms were replaced by a few large ones, it made sense to have fewer, centralized grain storage vats or newer facilities.
The Dubyk family purchased a grain elevator in 1976 and maintained it for more than 40 years. But it eventually became too expensive to maintain and the deteriorating structure was a liability. The family made the difficult decision to burn it down in 2017.
