Perform Hajj with Halal Sources - Khalid Basalamah
Only what is Halal is Accepted
Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said,
"O people, Allah is good. He does not accept anything except what is good." (Narrated by Muslim, no. 1015). What is meant by "Allah does not accept anything but what is good" is mentioned in the hadith about charity. Abu Hurairah also reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,
Hajj and Prayer with Haram Wealth
From this discussion, scholars have debated whether prayer on seized land is valid or not. Imam Ahmad is of the opinion that it is invalid. The majority of scholars believe it is valid but sinful.
Similarly, scholars have discussed what happens if someone performs Hajj with Haram wealth; is their Hajj valid? Imam Ahmad has two opinions on this matter, but the most popular is that their Hajj is invalid. This is based on the hadith that states that Allah only accepts what is good. The majority of scholars believe that Hajj with Haram wealth is valid, but the Hajj is not accepted. Therefore, those who wish to perform Hajj must be mindful of the funds they use.
We can also learn that Allah only accepts from those who are pious, one of the forms of piety is protecting oneself from illicit income. Allah Ta'ala says,
God willing
"Allah only accepts from those who are pious" (QS. Al Maidah: 27). Imam Ahmad was once asked by someone about the meaning of 'muttaqin' (pious person) in this verse and he answered that what was meant was to protect oneself from anything that is not halal that enters the stomach. This is quoted from Jaami'ul 'Ulum wal Hikam, 1: 262.
