In this tutorial, we will discuss the basics and operational principles of RTD i.e. Resistance Temperature Detector or Resistance Thermometer.
We will see their characteristic features, range of measurement, material composition, advantages and limitations.
The RTD is one of the three main types of electrical type temperature measurement method where change in temperature leads to change in the electrical parameter of the sensor, which is the resistance in this case.

The RTD circuit has three types of wire configurations viz. 2-wire, 3-wire and 4-wire configurations.
We will cover the RTD wire configurations in greater detail in a separate tutorial.
