NEW PUNGGOL COAST MRT BY BUS! 🇸🇬🚆 Go-Ahead Bus Service 84W Punggol ↺ Punggol Coast ↺ Punggol Point
Go-Ahead Bus Service 84W is an anti-clockwise circular loop service that starts from Punggol Temporary Bus Interchange and serves the Punggol North area via New Punggol Road for Punggol Digital District (PDD), Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) Punggol Campus, and Punggol Point Park, Punggol Way duplicating part of the Punggol LRT West Loop, and Sentul Crescent for One Punggol, SAFRA Punggol, and the future Punggol Regional Sports Centre.
The "W" in 84W indicates "white", a nod to when dedicated bus destination signs were displayed in front of circular bus routes in the past to indicate the direction of travel before the advent of digital displays, and drivers could flip such signs around if the bus was heading in the opposite direction. These plates were green and white for each loop direction. While such bus destination signs are no longer in use today, the historical "green" and "white" "colours" are still in use to indicate direction on this 2024 new bus service, with the clockwise circular served by Go-Ahead Bus Service 84G, indicating "green".
Punggol Coast MRT Station will open on 10 December 2024 (Tuesday), extending the North East Line (NEL) by 1 station. Strategically located in the heart of the Punggol Digital District (PDD), Punggol Coast MRT Station will significantly boost connectivity to key locations like the JTC Business Park and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) campus, as well as the upcoming Punggol Coast Mall.
With the launch of Punggol Coast MRT Station, over 200,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk of an NEL station. Commuters in Punggol North can look forward to shorter travel times to the city center and other key parts of Singapore. For instance, journeys from Punggol North to Outram Park or Orchard Road will take just 45 minutes, significantly cutting down from the current 60-minute commute via bus/LRT transfers. This not only saves time but also makes commuting a more efficient and pleasant experience for residents in the Punggol North area.
In addition to serving commuters traveling to and from Punggol, the new MRT station will greatly improve connectivity for students and staff at the SIT campus and workers in the Punggol Digital District. The recently opened Teck Lee LRT Station also complements this improved transport infrastructure, providing further accessibility to these rapidly developing areas. New covered linkways have been built to enhance the walking experience from Teck Lee LRT Station to surrounding locations, ensuring a comfortable commute even during rainy weather.
