Backing up router/switch/firewall configuration scripts with UVexplorer

Thank you for watching this tutorial on how to capture configuration files for routers, switches, and firewalls with UVexplorer. We'll take you through the three different methods to capture those configuration files and also how you can view them in UVexplorer. First, you need to enter your SSH and telnet settings. So go to protocol credentials settings dialog box. You'll want to update your telnet and SSH credentials with the appropriate logins so that you can access these devices and back up those configuration files into UVexplorer. Once you have those credentials entered, go ahead and click Close, and you'll go up here to discover network. In this dialog box, you want to click on the settings button. This will open the different options that you have within each discovery. Go to the Advanced tab and click capture device configurations. During the discovery, UVexplorer will use your credentials to access your routers, firewalls, and switches, looking for those configuration files and backing them up into UVexplorer. Go ahead and click Close, and then run the discovery. When the discovery is complete or the scheduled discovery is complete, you can go into UVexplorer, select the device that has the configurations backed up, and go down here to the tab, and this will list all the configurations UVexplorer is backed up.
UVexplorer provides an initial capture, the last capture, and then, of course, the configuration name. This way you can look through each of the different configurations and see if there's any changes made. You can view the config by right clicking and going to View. You can also right click that config and go to Compare to compare different configurations to see if there's been changes, what those changes are. The second method you can use to back up your configuration files is by going to the Tools menu and selecting Start Vs Run. This will open the Start Vs Run configuration dialog box. You can then filter the devices by SNMP, network devices, date modified, or only printers. And to run the capture, go ahead and select the capture button. The third method to capture configurations is to go to the Tools menu and select capture config. This will open the capture config dialog box for selecting individual devices and capturing the configs from that lone device. You can use the filter up above here to select different devices. In this example, I'd like to capture the configurations for the Hirschman. I can then choose which credential I'd like to use.
Then I'd like to capture the startup config, but I can also capture the running config or the startup and running config. Click capture, and the startup config has been saved and backed up into UVexplorer. If there's any issues, you can also view the log and save the log out if you're unable to access the configuration file for that device.
