Hi everyone! Long time, no upload! Here is my part for OnceUponADreamStudios' "Classic" MEP, hosted by the wonderful DustedMorphagus! ^_^
Theme: Tribute to your favourite Actor and Actress.
I never really had a favourite actress before I discovered Gene Tierney. I've only been a fan of hers since January, but I can safely say she's my favourite actress. But I'm not obsessed with her. I swear I'm not. Okay, maybe I am a little. Okay, maybe I am a LOT!
Gene truly was an amazing actress. She was able to perform any role brilliantly – beautiful leading lady; jealous and psychotic lover; doting wife; exotic island girl; strong-minded, independent woman; shy, withdrawn girl... The list goes on and on! Gene was able to fit into any film with ease: film noir, period drama, screwball comedy, war film or romantic drama.
Not only is Gene my favourite actress, she's also my role model. She had her fair share of troubles in her life, such as a troubled first marriage and a severely disabled daughter; not to mention she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in her 30s and endured almost 30 shock treatments in an institution. But even when her life seemed unbearable and she wanted to end it all, Gene somehow found the strength to carry on. I really don't know where she got her determination and courage from, but I think it's so inspiring that she never gave up.
If you ever want to check out any of Gene's films, I'd definitely recommend: Laura (1944), a film noir/murder mystery which also stars the legendary Vincent Price so you really can't go wrong there; Leave Her to Heaven (1945), Gene's best performance in my opinion, she was nominated for an Oscar for this film and really, it's no wonder; and Heaven Can Wait (1943), probably one of my all-time favourite films ever, it's such a funny and touching film.
