World cities need to promote sustainable transportation and well-being. To do so, it is necessary to understand how citizens interact and behave under given built environment conditions, and how these conditions foster behaviors like walking as a transportation mode.

This publication of SUR-Research Center in Transportation Research part F: Traffic Psychology and Behavior, tests an environmental psychology model to prove if and how emotional responses towards the infrastructure can predict avoidance behavioral intentions towards sidewalks on the city of Bogota, Colombia. The main outcome of this research is the identification of how a stimulus – organism – response model explains the affective dimensions and emotional response that are related to sidewalk avoidance behavioral intentions.
