We cover how to get a formula in text form from a cell using the FORMULATEXT function. This function is useful for documentation purposes, especially if your workbook consists of complicated formulae and you want the user viewing it to understand how the values are calculated. In our example, we have a variable rate mortgage repayment calculator which accounts for changes in mortgage rates throughout the mortgage term. We have an amortisation table to the right which shows how the interest and principal change over time. If someone wants to quickly understand how the amortisation table is calculated and which functions are used, we can create a separate backend sheet which documents all of this.
