Wuppertal shoegaze band Casino Garden present "Pretend", the first single from their upcoming fourth album "Transition" (08.11.2024).
With "Pretend", the band returns to their dreamy roots with a more generic, shoegaze-typical guitar-heavy sound after the two experimental previous albums "Oliver Oliver" and "Get Your Shit Together". A dynamic and captivating instrumental intro leads into a catchy verse that envelops the listener in a delicate melancholy. The quiet-loud structure, reminiscent of the grungy nineties, emphasises the unique pop factor that has characterised the band since their debut album "Slide".
With "Pretend", @casinogarden9427 deliver a song-like embrace. A comforting sigh that warms the soul. "Pretend you're here with me" is the chorus, soothingly delivered by frontman Matthias Ballke, inviting the listener to escape into the music.
The single offers an appropriate foretaste of the forthcoming album. A grainy, authentic sound paired with brilliant songwriting, a mix of shoegaze, post-rock and alternative rock with the all-important, unique touch of pop. A view through a wide-open window onto a dark blue-violet landscape.
The album title "Transition" could not be more fitting. With Jonas Schoelen (drums) and David Burdina (guitar), the band has two new additions. However, where one might expect a drastic change in sound, the two rather emphasise the strengths of the songs and sound as if they had always been a part of Casino Garden.
