Forking a repository in GitHub is to make a copy of another user's repository in our own account in GitHub, such that we can work on that repository in GitHub independently of the other user.

A typical workflow for making changes to a public repo owned by someone else might be to:
1. Fork the other user's repo
2. Make our changes and push to our forked repo in GitHub
3. Submit a Pull Request to the other user's repo to request merging of our changes.
