CryENGINE: Cached Simulation to Live Physics (2005)
This shows tech developed to allow users to cache out really nice prebaked destruction, and then upon collision, become dynamic. In the video, the boxes flicker on the frame they become live. They are looking back one keyframe to get a proper starting physical impulse.
