This Stellaris War Tutorial covers the basics of warfare in Stellaris 1.4 Kennedy. This video will show you how to conduct warfare.
In many 4x strategy games, warfare is a relatively simple affair. You declare war on your rivals, and fight it out until one is eliminated or a truce is declared. Any territory seized in the fighting is usually kept with the side that conquered.
This is in contrast to Stellaris, where warfare is more limited. When you declare a war, you must select from a number of war goals, including Humiliate, Stop Atrocities, Cede Planet, Liberate Planet, and others.
Each war goal has a required amount of war score, and you can select up to 100 score worth of war goals. Once war is declared, you must destroy the enemy fleets, blockade their planets, and perhaps invade their planets. Each of those actions can provide you with positive war score, or negative war score, depending upon if you win or lose those particular engagements.
Your objective in the war is to get enough war score to justify your war demands, and if you win then your opponent must give in to your demands.
