The initial plan hatched by the "Comando TXikia" was to kidnap him and exchange him for ETA prisoners or, failing that, Prince Juan Carlos de Borbón. They spent a year and a half in Madrid preparing everything; for several months they frequented the same church as the Admiral, sitting near him and even taking communion with him. They set up shop in a basement on Claudio Coello Street, posing as sculptors to conceal their movements and the noise they made. In broad daylight, they "hid" the thick wiring that would trigger the detonation, dressed in telephone company overalls.
Was Genoveva (Eva) Forest a key liaison with the Communist Party and the main instigator of Carrero Blanco's assassination? How could the American embassy, just 200 meters away, fail to detect the tremors of the jackhammers? Does the CIA have reports on what happened during the attack? And most strikingly, the admiral's head of security, Arias Navarro, was appointed Prime Minister a few days later.
