South Africa: Kruger Park
Per girare tutto il Kruger ci vogliono settimane.
Siamo stati invitati a visitare la riserva di Thornybush, una delle più belle, e non ci lasciamo sfuggire l'occasione. Arriviamo sotto un sole rovente davvero africano (e molto poco autunnale).
Fa caldissimo, come devono aver pensato alcuni elefanti a
mollo in un laghetto. Ci fermiamo a guardarli mentre giocano in acqua, si spruzzano con le proboscidi, si immergono, nuotano, si spintonano come bambini. Poi un grosso maschio ci vede ed esce dall'acqua,
visibilmente infastidito, e simula una carica.
Battiamo in ritirata, seguiti dall'occhio divertito di un piccolo
kudu. Qualcuno giura di aver visto una leonessa aggirarsi nella boscaglia, ma non possiamo garantirlo, mentre gnu, zebre, giraffe e molti facoceri sono una certezza.

We have been invited to visit the private reserves of Thornybush, one of the best, and we enthusiastically accept. When we get there, the sun is shining with real African strength (quite unlike the Autumn temperatures we are used to). It's so fiercely hot we must sympathize with the elephants splashing around in a pond. We stop to watch them playing in the water, spraying it around with their proboscis, diving, swimming, pushing each other like children. When a big male spots us and wades out of the water, visibly irritated and ready to charge, we beat a hasty retreat, watched by an interested-looking little kudu, standing by. Some team members swear they saw a lioness prowling in the bush, although that's not 100% certain. Wildebeest, zebras, giraffes and plenty of warthogs, on the other hand, are guaranteed.
