Sound of turbulence
A flow under periodic forcing ("Kolmogorov flow") undergoes a transition to turbulence. Plotted: x component of the velocity (vx, colormap), power spectrum of the velocity (log-normal). Sound: x-averaged vx if y were the time. An initial pure frequency develops higher harmonics, then high frequency noise, then low frequency power-law distribution.
