They'll tell you that ol Lemon Pepper didn't make it on the old dog road. They'll tell you Cheddar didn't either. Or maybe they'll talk to you about ol Spot Biscuit but I reckon he's still setting alright too. All the pups on that road were scrappy. They had to be to live up there in Appalachia. They knew the score, and they'd come hang around the pot still in the cool evenings in September. Reckon they're up they're even still now, curled up among the wreck of chipped copper. Reckon they are. Still think about them dogs sometimes and how we named the road after em. Dusty trail. It was a lot more than that now that I think about it.
