Train Ride on the Red Diamond Express - Birmingham Zoo
The Red Diamond Express was purchased by the Red Diamond Tea company and donated to the zoo in 2008. But it wasn't the first train ride at the zoo. The first one started in 1957. There has been a few different models ran since then. One previous trains resides at The Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum in Calera, AL. The current train is made from recycled materials and the Engines are from Chance (who makes a lot of amusement rides) and is powered by propane.
the Birmingham zoo uses a 2ft gauge track over its 4200ft journey.
