Basically, google “help Ukraine, how to help Ukraine” in any form. There are countless pages.
My name is Dasha. I live in Kyiv. Since February 24 I know what fear of death is. Not abstract fear. Not my suicidal thoughts caused by long-lasting depression.
Real, palpable fear.
It starts with a hot wave in your stomach, which spreads all over your body. You freeze. Then come tremors. Then comes apathy. You want it to end for yourself. But not for your family, for your pets, for your friends. You know it’s impossible. I stay in my flat with my mom, aunt and pets. My grandma lives across the street. My ex-boyfriend lives across another street.
Three of us are not leaving for shelter: mom has diabetes and a weak heart. She refuses to leave the flat and the pets. I refuse to leave her.
One my best friends is staying with her husband and parents-in-law in private sector near Boryspil, always ready to hide in the shed; her mom and grandma live next to us, running between their flat and shelter. Another best friend is in Kirovohrad Region, she texted me she’s alright but I don’t know anything else.
Nova Khavovka, where my relatives are, is now occupied. Others are in Lviv, possibly waiting for an attack. Others are trying to flee to border through Ivano-Frankivsk Region. My colleague fights in the territorial defense in the centre of Kyiv.
A rocket launched from Belarus has been hit by Ukrainian military in mere kilometres from my apartment house tonight. I can see smoke rising on the horizon. I can hear blasts.
Chornobyl Nuclear Plant is occupied. Russians are approaching Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant. Vasylkiv Tankfarm Facility in Kyiv Region is burning. Kharkiv, Sumy, Kherson are resisting painfully. And more. And more. There are too many facts to count. Facts mean only one thing: my compatriots are dying.
Tears are not choking me because of this sight. They are chocking me because I am writing these words.
