In the State of Tocantin, Brazil in the Jalapão mountains, archaeologist stumbled across 16 sites with rock engravings and even a few painted scenes. Age estimates for the oldest (painted) art are upwards of 2,000 years old. Sadly there are no photographs (yet)of the painted art.
On the island of Guernsey, at Castle Cornet, archaeologists found a small 4.72 inch rock carving on a piece of slate of a ship. It's suggested that the carving was made around 500 years ago out of boredom.
In Agrigento, Sicily, formerly the ancient city of Akragas, archaeologists unearthed a new sculpture of the Greek Titan Atlas. Other statues like it have been discovered at the ruins of the Temple of Zeus and it's believed that the statues once were positioned on the structure in a way that would have looked like Atlas propping up the temple roof. It is one of an estimated 37 other statues. The statue is around 2500 years old.
