In 2016, with assistance from professionals at The Harvard School of Education, I built Consenses’ curriculum: offering the consenses process in the form of an SEL, multidisciplinary package. The curriculum offers art as a language through which students can communicate their unique differences and unexpected similarities. Consenses in the classroom bridges divides, inspires creativity & communication and bolsters confidence in self-expression leading to a greater ability for students to see from each another’s perspectives, feel connected, and to grow a greater tolerance and even an appreciation for each other's differences.
Consenses’ has two main curricula: Consenses and Consenses at Home. The primary difference between the two is that one is designed to be taught in a physical classroom and the other is built to be delivered primarily online or in a blended classroom. Both offer (To quote one of our students) a relay race of art-making where students progressively pass pieces of their artwork to one another in order to create multisensory interpretive chains.
Each lesson in our curricula offers students an introductory tutorial in a different artistic medium (photography, music, dance, sculpture, poetry, painting and set design). The art tutorials are all taught by me via videos embedded into the curricula. This means no one interested in teaching consenses or consenses at home needs to have any sort of an arts background In fact, some non-arts STEM teachers insert our lessons into their primary curriculum to shed new light on their teachings, further engage students in course materials and inspire greater class participation.
We offer teacher trainings for both The Consenses and Consenses at-home curriculum. Our trainings are chock full of exciting and creative exercises that will teach you everything you need to know to be able to joyously and confidently bring Consesnes into your community. whether that's a middle school, high school, or college classroom,.. a camp, afterschool or homeschool setting,… or even in a workplace, organization or apprentice workshop you’d like to offer, Consense training will certify you as a Consenses teacher, eligible to gather students and start teaching right away, giving your community a whole new way of seeing and connecting with one another and the world.
We hope you will let us give you and your community the tools you deserve to bridge the divides inherent in our current state of the world and provide the relief that comes from connection and creative expression. Give yourself and your community the gift of Consenses today.
