Along Highway 41 North in Inverness, Florida lies a 13-acre animal oasis called Ziggy’s Haven. Ziggy’s is an animal sanctuary and adoption center that cares for nearly 300 rescued parrots and other wildlife. It all started with a 15-year-old girl’s love for birds and grew through her parents’ commitment to keeping her dream alive.
Citrus County Stories spoke to Kim, a director at Ziggy’s, and a few dedicated volunteers about the rescue’s touching origin story, their unique work and mission, and how they’ve found community in caring for these feathery friends.
