In this month’s Art Story, Skye Malish-Olson, the High’s Head of Exhibition Design, takes us on a tour of our new children’s book exhibition, “Beatrix Potter: Drawn to Nature.” From towering mushrooms to stencils inspired by Victorian wallpaper, she explores some of the exhibition’s innovative design elements and gives us a glimpse into the thought process behind designing an interactive presentation that appeals to visitors of all ages.

Known for her captivating stories of Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, and Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, to name a few, Beatrix Potter was a renowned illustrator and storyteller who was passionate about the natural world. Behind these classic tales lies a curiosity that led Beatrix to become more involved in the scientific world, and this exhibition follows her creative pursuits and inspirations across illustration, scientific observation, narrative building, and preservation.

“Beatrix Potter: Drawn to Nature” is on view through January 7, 2024, on the Second Level of the Anne Cox Chambers Wing.
