A “CLASSIC” from Lecco… the GRIGNETTA from the SINIGAGLIA crest
On this hike, I'll take you to the summit of GRIGNETTA, one of the iconic mountains of the city of Lecco.
The starting point is in PIANI DEI RESINELLI, a small tourist destination (very popular in the 1960s and 1980s) shared between the municipalities of Lecco, Mandello del Lario, Abbadia Lariana, and Ballabio.
The hike begins at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters and reaches the summit at an impressive 2,184 meters (some sources cite 2,177 meters), with a nearly 1,000-meter elevation gain.
After leaving your car (there's also a bus service) in one of the large and numerous parking lots, you climb towards the Soldanella refuge, where shortly after, on your left, you'll see the CAI signs indicating the path to the "Sinigaglia ridge."
From there, the first stretch will lead through a beautiful beech forest that gradually turns into a meadow, then a dirt path, and finally rocks.
The final stretch will feature several small, slightly more technical sections, requiring the use of ropes and chains to reach the summit. There, the "Ferrario bivouac" awaits you. This small, octagonal metal structure, lined with wood, offers shelter in case of extreme heat or cold, or you can spend the night if you want to watch the sunset or sunrise.
The descent will be via the "Cermenati ridge," a decidedly less technical trail, but one that still requires caution, as it traverses scree that isn't very stable, requiring—or at least recommended—the use of hiking poles.
