Alpha Forever - AFNoding 032 - Modular shift register
In this noding session we take a look at how to build a ‘Shift register’ using Alpha Forever Modular. Shift registers are often used in digital computers for computation and buffer related tasks, but one can find them in some analogue synthesizer modules as well. It can be thought of as a serial chain of sample & hold processors, where each unit samples the previous unit in the chain at the same time. The result is that the signal gets ‘shifted’ from the first unit towards the last unit at the time of the trigger. This behaviour can be used to create arpeggios, and since we have access to each individual step, a shift register is the ideal tool to create canon-like compositions / melodies.
