The ideas that formed the basis of positivism emerged in France and England during the eighteenth century. This movement was characterized by an aversion to religion and metaphysics, by empiricism, and by the pursuit of simplicity, clarity, accurate and precise representations, and uniformity in the methodology of studying all sciences. Positivism was a theoretical current created by the French philosopher Auguste Comte, who argued that the rule for social progress would be discipline and order.
